he tiles are handcrafted from low-fire white clay body. Each image is sculpted as a low relief. A reverse plaster mold is then made of the original relief. The tiles are hand pressed into the mold, finished, and individually hand glazed. After the first glaze firing, most of the tiles are hand glazed and fired again—up to three or four times. Glazing and firing the same tile several times helps to produce a richly colorful, transparent depth.
Crazing is a characteristic of many glazed ceramic tiles.
